“One of our biggest success stories comes from a student who used to miss school every Friday. She lives with her single mom, who works full-time and didn’t have anyone to take care of her daughter during early release days. Because of that, the student often stayed home on Fridays. After reaching out to her mom, the school tried different ways to support her, but the mom explained that her work schedule made it impossible to pick her up early. When Northern Soccer began, we set up our “after school student success hour” and through that we saw an opportunity to help. We invited the student to stay after school with the Northern Soccer program, giving her an extra hour at school so her mom could pick her up after work. This small change made a big difference. The student, who had never been part of any sports team before, joined after school soccer practice with Northern Soccer for the first time. Seeing her run with the soccer ball, smiling, and connecting with other students was truly amazing. She became more confident, more active, and happier at school.
